OUR CHANCE TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO SERVE

Wigan MP Lisa Nandy is backing the Armed Forces Day tribute in the borough on Saturday June 30th. The town centre will play host to stalls, jeeps, motorcycles, green goddesses and a Spitfire in recognition of the role our service personnel hold.

The men and women who serve in Britain’s armed forces, and their families, make enormous sacrifices and Armed Forces Day provides their local communities with the opportunity to show their support.

Armed Forces Day is also an opportunity to show solidarity with veterans and cadets.

Lisa said: “Our armed forces do difficult and dangerous work, and deserve recognition for this through the military covenant introduced in 2011, which ensures that those who make sacrifices and serve our country face no disadvantage as a result of their service.

“The Government needs to do more to ensure that the principles of the covenant are backed up with policies that help members of our Armed Forces.

“Hopefully this year’s Armed Forces Day can act as a catalyst to encourage the Government to provide better support for those who have already served our country, and those who continue to serve. That’s why I’ll be attending the Armed Forces Day celebration on Saturday, where people from across Wigan can pay tribute to all those in the Armed Forces who continue to serve.”
